My Poor Poor Mom!!!

While I was babysitting last week, my Mom and I were cutting squares of fabric to make quilts for the festival of trees. While my Mom was cutting, she cut off the side of her finger! It was soooo gross! I seriously had no idea of what to do. I know when you knock out a tooth you stick it in a glass of milk. I know that if it's a cut, apply pressure and get stitches, but what do you do when the whole side of your finger is on the table? Well, all you can do is apply pressure. I ran my Mom to the instacare. ( I'm very familiar with that place.) When we got there there were a few other people checking in. We waited a few minutes and they brought out a nurse to see my Mom's finger. My Mom was sitting on a chair with her head down. She felt like she was going to pass out. The nurse looked at her finger, then she kept pushing on her finger and then pulling back the paper towel we had wrapped around her finger, again and again and again. This was obviously causing pain to my Mom, she kept pulling her finger back away from the nurse and lifting up her legs! At this point another patient in the waiting room told me that I had better sit down. I guess I lost all color in my face and looked like I was going to pass out! Seriously, it was so gross! Anyway, they put this foam stuff on my Mom's finger to cauterize the blood vessels so they would stop bleeding. Then they put a splint on it and wrapped it really tight. My poor, poor Mom! They said that her finger would just grow back. I brought the side of her finger with me thinking that maybe they could just stitch it back on, but they can't it's now considered dead tissue. So, what did I learn from this...there is nothing you can do for a cut off, and I'm a wimp!

Oh your poor mom is right. How crazy that it just cut it right off. My hubby is like you he gets really white and light headed dealing with that stuff. Oh tell her I am sorry that really sucks cause it will probably take awhile to heal no fun....

Your poor mom...seriously I almost threw up just reading that. I hope she's ok. Those cutting knives are vicious - I've almost cut myself a zillion times. It's a miracle I haven't lost a finger!!!

YIKES!!! Sounds like quite a day. Who watched the kids while you went to instacare?
